Weddings at Sunnyside Reformed Church
We extend our warmest congratulations as you embark on this significant journey of marital commitment, sanctified by divine blessings. Whether you decide to solemnize your union at Sunnyside Reformed Church or elsewhere, our heartfelt wishes for joy and fulfillment accompany you.
At Sunnyside Reformed Church, we believe that marriage as a divine covenant, forged between two individuals who, as equals, intend to dedicate their lives to one another, seeking blessings from both the Creator and the church community.
The Ceremony
Recognizing marriage as a spiritual rite, Sunnyside Reformed Church adheres to the tenets of a Protestant Christian denomination, reflecting our progressive ethos. The foundational ceremony aligns with our church's traditions but offers room for personalization. Typically, ceremonies span 20–25 minutes. However, the inclusion of additional elements—bridesmaids, ring bearers, special rituals, or readings—might extend the duration, albeit seldom beyond 30 minutes.
Rehearsal
While simple ceremonies might forego a rehearsal, most couples prefer one to ensure fluidity during the actual event. Rehearsals usually take place the evening prior to the wedding.
Membership & Requirements
Membership at Sunnyside Reformed Church is not a prerequisite for marriage. We provide an application detailing our established fees and guidelines. A wedding date is officially reserved upon the receipt of the completed application and a deposit. You are also more than welcome to rent our sanctuary and use your own officiants. All ceremonies are typically officiated by our Pastor. However, in cases of scheduling clashes, an alternative officiator may be arranged in agreement with the couple. Should you desire organ music, our Church’s Music Director would be at your service, with a contingency plan in case of scheduling conflicts.
Pastoral Consultation
If the couple decides to use our Pastor as the officiant, he values engaging with couples on at least two occasions prior to officiating the marriage. Half this time is dedicated to discussing and orchestrating your special day.
Including God in a church wedding implies a continual spiritual connection. We encourage couples to attend our services at least twice. While we’d be honored by your continued presence, we prioritize your spiritual growth, whether within our congregation or elsewhere.
Pre-Marital Counseling
Recognizing that every relationship comes with its unique dynamics and challenges, we advocate for couples to consult a professional counselor. Engaging in sessions and receiving a comprehensive “marriage assessment” can provide insights into the relationship’s strengths and areas for growth.
