Funerals at Sunnyside Reformed Church

A funeral or memorial service stands as a significant ritual, allowing us to pay tribute to a cherished one by celebrating their life amidst our grief. Such a ceremony becomes particularly poignant when families come together, reminiscing and realizing the profound impact their loved one had on others.

In the Christian belief, we bear testimony to the uplifting truth that death is not a culmination but a transition to eternal life. While death indeed leaves an undeniable void, it does not alienate us from God’s unwavering love or the affection of our kin and comrades.

In times of loss or when anticipating an impending passing, please reach out to Sunnyside Reformed Church’s office or directly to our pastor. The presiding pastor is The Reverend Brandan Robertson. To get in touch, please email him here.

Post the departure of a loved one, you might engage with a funeral home. In such cases, the funeral director should liaise with the church and discuss particulars with the pastor to finalize the service’s timing and details. The funeral director will oversee all expenses, encompassing stipends for both the pastor and the organist. If you opt out of funeral home services, the pastor will apprise you of any charges during your service planning meeting.

Sunnyside Reformed Church, deeply embedded in the Queens, NY, community, graciously extends its sanctuary for funerals and memorial services to both community and church members. If you have a preference for a ceremony at a funeral home, please coordinate with the pastor or ask the funeral director to initiate the conversation.

At Sunnyside Reformed Church, funerals may be officiated by our pastor or another clergy is welcome to officiate instead.

Similarly, our designated organist renders musical services for ceremonies at the church. Other musicians might be incorporated upon invitation.
